From one New Yorker to another, I felt this. I've been changing the entire way I see and value connection. Thank you for sharing <3

I liked this post a lot and this really spoke to me "I began to grow close with people who I shared common interests with, but nothing more, no commitment to honor friendship as a sacred space." and I think that discernment comes with time as well as knowing that there is more to relationships than common interests. I feel like what I've learned most when relationships have ended, especially the quiet endings, is to not take them personally (despite the fact I can be sensitive AF). Things fizzle out all the time, people outgrow each other, and distance can be created physically and mentally. I think there is a grieving process with this loss but its part of the life cycle for us I suppose.

currently working through how the affirmations my superficiality received = a lifetime of friendships where I obscure parts of myself. it’s been difficult to accept and honestly i’m scared to start setting real boundaries with my day ones. ty for sharing, this post inspires me to keep with my growth 🖤

Your day ones, the REAL ONES, will certainly become better friends when you express your needs and all the others will become less important. Trust me. 🖤

This needs to be a handbook, definitely a beautiful way to have a critical dialogue about friendship. Now, I cannot get the chorus of “What About Your Friends” out of my head.

Playing that song all day today! I posted a version of this on my IG stories and came back to it for that purpose, I would love to read a compilation of how to examine friendships from different people. Great idea!

This is brilliant and so spot on. We need to talk more about the intricacies of friendships. Thank you!

Beautifully stated. I love the idea of “growing into” a life. This piece conjured images of seeding, weeding-especially weeding- feeding, fertilizing, tending to the sprouts and blooms, and pruning-especially pruning!

Yes to all of this!! Plus you featured in the midst of the thicket?! Wow. Thank you! 🌱💚🌱💚
